Zoological Park
A zoo (short for zoological garden or zoological park and also called an animal park or menagerie) is a facility in which animals are housed within enclosures, displayed to the public, and in which they may also breed.
Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park or Chattbir Zoo, Mohali district
● Area : 202 hectare
● Faunal species : Sarus crane, Asiatic lions, tigers and leopards. 42 species of birds, 37 species of
mammals and 4 species of reptiles
Tiger Safari, Ludhiana
● Area : 35 hectare
● Key faunal species : Species 11, Tiger 8, Bear 2
Bir Moti Bagh Deer Park, Patiala
● Key faunal species: 12 species each of mammals and birds. Blackbuck, Chinkara and Crocodiles
are endangered species
Bir Talab Deer Park, Bathinda
● Area : 20 hectare Neelon Deer Park, Ludhiana
● Area : 4 hectare
● Faunal species : deers, rabbits
Community Reserve
Community reserves : On land of private or community ownership, if a group of people are doing conservation work and Government gives it a legal recognition then it is called Community reserves.
1. Lalwan Community Reserve, Hoshiarpur
● Year of establishment : 2007
● Area : 1266.80 ha
2. Keshopur-Chammb Community Reserve, Gurdaspur
● Year of establishment :2007
● Area : 340 ha.
● Migratory birds from Central Asia and Siberia visit this area in winter months.
