Postal department to conduct letter-writing contest ‘Dhai Akhar’ on the theme “Letter to My Motherland”
  • The Department of Posts is conducting a national level letter-writing competition named as "Dhai Akhar"
  • The theme is -“Letter to My Motherland”.
Ballistic Missile Interceptor AAD Successfully Flight Tested
  • DRDO conducted the successful test of the Ballistic Missile Interceptor Advanced Area Defence (AAD) from Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.
  • The endo-atmospheric missile, capable of intercepting incoming targets at an altitude of 15 to 25 kms was launched against multiple simulated targets of 1500 km class ballistic missile.
  • Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, witnessed the flight test along with other senior officials.
PM reviews performance of key infrastructure sectors of Transport and Housing
  • Key Highlights :
  1. Presentation made by CEO NITI Aayog, Shri Amitabh Kant: the pace of road construction has picked up significantly. The average road length constructed per day in FY 17-18 was 26.93 km, as compared to 11.67 km in FY 13-14.
  2. "Sukhad Yatra" App:  provides information about road conditions, and facilitates lodging of complaints, has seen over one lakh downloads so far.
  3. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, rural roads have now connected 88 percent of all eligible habitations. Over 44,000 villages have been connected in the period from 2014 to 2018, as compared to about 35,000 in the preceding four year period.
  4. "MeriSadak" App: launched in 10 regional languages, and has seen 9.76 lakh downloads so far.
  5. 20 States have so far been hosted on the Geospatial Rural Road Information System (GRRIS).
  6. Under the UDAN scheme, 27 airports are now operational in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
  7. In the rural housing sector,  over one crore houses have been constructed in the period from 2014 to 2018, as compared to about 25 lakh houses in the preceding four year period. 
  8. In urban housing, emphasis is being laid on new construction technologies. 54 lakh houses have been sanctioned under Pradhan MantriAwaas Yojana (Urban), since the inception of the scheme.
