IWAI sets out on large public outreach along Ganga for Jal Marg Vikas Project
  • A team of IWAI (Inland Waterways Authority of India) held a two day long intensive advocacy and communications outreach at Sahibganj and Rajmahal in Jharkhand. The public meetings are being held as part of a month-long dialogue initiative on the entire stretch of JMVP (Varanasi to Haldia) that began in July.
  • The IWAI is constructing a Rs 280. 90 crore multi modal terminal at Sahibganj in Jharkhand.
  • The IWAI is working with State Livelihood Missions for imparting necessary skill training for the youth, boatmen and other community members so that they could benefit from the employment opportunities
  • The multi-modal terminal at Sahibganj is an important component of the development of the National Waterway-1 from Varanasi to Haldia, a distance of 1390 km. The state of the art terminal at Sahibganj will have a cargo handling capacity of 2.24 Million Tons Per Annum (MTPA) on completion in 2019. 
  • A Roll-on Roll-off (Ro-Ro) terminal at Sahibganj will provide critical connectivity with Bihar at Manihari.
  • Another Ro-Ro on Ganga at Rajmahal in Jharkhand connects Manickchak in West Bengal. 
122 New Research Project proposals at a cost of Rs 112 Crore selected for funding under IMPRINT-2
  • For advancing research in the high education institutions, the government has approved 122 new research projects at a cost of Rs 112 crore under IMPRINT-2 (IMPacting Research INnovation and Technology (IMPRINT-2) covering Energy, Security, Healthcare, Advanced Materials, ICT and Security/Defence domains.
  • The new research project proposals selected include: 35 (ICT); 18 (Advanced Materials), 17 (Healthcare Technology), 12 (Energy Security); 11 (Security &Defence); 9 (Sustainable Habitat); 7 Water Resource & River Systems; 5 (Environment & Climate); 4 (Manufacturing); and 4 (Nano Technology).
  • The knowledge portal for monitoring the progress of research projects and to disseminate findings will be launched in October 2018.
  • IMPRINT is the first of its kind MHRD supported Pan-IIT + IISc joint initiative, now open for private institutions too, to address the major science and engineering challenges that India must address and champion to enable, empower and embolden the nation for inclusive growth and self-reliance.
  • The implementation of 142 projects under IMPRINT-1 has got underway.
