Swachh Survekshan 2019
  • Shri Hardeep Puri, Minister of State (I/C) for Housing & Urban Affairshas stated that while Swachh Survekshan 2019 will focus on sustainability and encourage large scale citizen participation and ensure progress towards garbage free and open defecation free cities, the Ease of Living Index will encourage cities to move towards an ‘outcome-based’ approach to Urban planning &Management.
  • Sh. Puri launched the fourth edition of the annual cleanliness survey of urban India – Swachh Survekshan 2019.
  • Swachh Survekshan 2019 will be conducted across all cities and towns across the country between 4th – 31st January 2019. 
  • The key highlights of Swachh Survekshan 2019 are as follows:

    1. Fully digitized survey through online MIS

    1. The survey indicators/questionnaire will carry a total of 5000 marks as compared to 4000 marks in Swachh Survekshan 2018.

    1. Data will be collected from 4 broad sources – ‘Service Level Progress’, Direct Observation, Citizens Feedback and Certification – as shown below.



    1. Revised weightage for the components under ‘Service Level Progress’, adding a new component ‘By-Laws’ (refer diagram below).


    1. Certification (Star Rating of Garbage Free Cities and Open Defecation Free Protocols)

New Chairperson of Appellate Tribunal for Electricity
  • Smt. Justice Manjula Chellur took Oath as Chairperson, Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Ministry of Power. Prior to this, Smt. Justice Manjula Chellur was Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.  
Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act
  • In order to ensure safe workplaces for Women in the private sector, the Ministry of Women and Child had requested Hon’ble Minister for Corporate Affairs to mandate the disclosure regarding implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act in the Directors Report of every company.
  • Disclosure of compliance under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act in the Annual Reports of Private companies now made Mandatory: Ministry of Corporate Affairs amends the Companies (Accounts) Rules, 2014.
  • A number of instructions have been issued by the DoPT on the request of the ministry to provide immediate relief to the women working in central government against sexual harassment at workplace.
  • The ministry has also empanelled a number of entities who can provide training to any organization on effective implementation of the provisions of the Act.
  • The ministry has provided a facility to all working women to file complaints under this Act directly with the ministry through the SHE-Box.
